About Papyr.is

The idea for Papyr.is was birthed from a combination of wonderment and frustration.

Wonderment with the fact that e-ink devices had finally crossed the 'uncanny valley' of replicating the deliciously tactile experience of writing on a piece of paper. For us, the moment came with our purchase of the Remarkable2 e-ink tablet, with it's matte screen, weighted stylus that gradually wears down and ultrafast refresh rate all coming together to finally replicate the feel of pen on paper.

And frustration with the fact that there seemed few places on the web that collected and curated the types of 'digital writing experiences' that could truly take advantage of this wonderful historic moment in human computer interface design. And with the release of other devices offering similarly tactile experiences, the time seemed right to build just such a marketplace.

Enter Papyr.is

So thank you for dropping by and having a look at our wares. Being a small collective of artists, designers and curators, we've also taken the liberty of working with similarly minded people to offer our own spin on the humble crossword, sudoko puzzle and brain teaser.

But perhaps the thing we're most proud of is the ability to share with the world the amazing work of Project Gutenberg, who have allowed us to share with you their incredible library of beautifully rendered classical works of literature. We're still figuring out this e-commerce thing, and plan to try a few different things that we hope will bring you moments of contemplation, and joy, through what we've decided to call handwritten cognitive workflow. Based on the outskirts of Seattle, our team strongly believe in the notion of social enterprise. A portion of the funds raised through Papyr.is will be donated to our favorite charities helping to support homelessness and educational literacy in the area. -- Team Papyr.is
